>>7 TIPS TO CRAFT A DOWNLOADABLE WHITE PAPER

By Mike O'Sullivan
WordBiz Guest Editor

You know how it works: Acquiring a sales lead means give to get.

Your hoped-for lead provides you contact information - and perhaps answers qualifying questions - in exchange for something of value.

And that “something of value” needs to be a qualifier in itself. Something only a person in your target audience would want. Something that shows you know a thing or two about the topics that matter to them.

Eureka... give them a downloadable report! This can be a white paper, tip sheet, how-to guide, case study, or any other information product. Yes, there are lots of white papers out there. But people love them. They're tangible and have perceived value.

Now comes the intimidating part: Putting one together. Here are the answers to 7 commonly-asked questions about effective white papers.

  >> WORDBIZ BLOGGING FOR BUSINESS TELESEMINAR

Blogging for Business Teleseminar
Thursday, November 20
1 hour: 10 AM Pacific; 1 PM Eastern; 6 PM London; 5 AM (next day) Sydney

Did you miss this live event? No matter. You can order the audio CD. It was a content-rich one-hour session where I grilled three blogging experts to get key questions answered about blogging as a marketing tool.

What teleseminar attendees said

"I liked the teleseminar format - well-moderated, all 3 guests good contributors."

"The speakers seemed very knowledgeable on the topic. Debbie kept the discussion moving - it's so common for the speakers to go on a tangent for too long and then not get to half the questions and issues that the agenda listed."

"I loved the PDF outlining all that was going to be talked about. I especially appreciated all the resources."

Attendees received a 5-page PDF with the agenda, speaker bios and useful links. This is included when you order the audio CD.

Speakers:

- Rick Bruner, professional blogger
- Dave Taylor, techie entrepreneur
- Greg Reinacker,
the business guy
- Debbie Weil,
the moderator

Follow this link to learn more about Rick, Dave and Greg.

Questions we addressed during the teleseminar

- What is blogging and why would I or my company want to blog?

- how is a blog different from an e-newsletter, an email discussion list and/or a Web-based bulletin board?

- What does a blog on your business Web site accomplish?

- how does a blog fit into an overall marketing and communications strategy?

- Can you make money with a blog?

- How do I add a blog to my company site; can you recommend the best software tools?

- who should write our company blog?

- How open and honest do you think a company blog should be? Should it include mistakes the company has made, stories about clients, personal stuff about the employees?

- What's an RSS feed and why is it important?

- Can I use RSS feeds for something other than blogs?

- Can a blog be a mini Web site?

- How much time should it take to blog everyday?

- What are the legal limitations of blogging for a company?

>> PUB NOTE: SAN FRANCISCO + STEALING TIME

The view from San Francisco...

... is excellent. I had the pleasure Monday of having a leisurely coffee in downtown San Francisco with five WordBiz subscribers.

Here's who showed up to chat knowledgeably about blogs, e-newsletters, online advertising and more: Maria Lopez-Knowles and Steve Knowles of MarketingAcumen, Mike O'Sullivan (our esteemed guest editor), David Riker of Speedwayprinting, and Cathie Sturdevant of FlikPix (site still under construction).

Stealing time

Have you ever found yourself in another city with a few hours to kill and no deadlines to meet? What better place to steal time than San Francisco. After meeting with the group above, I wandered up Grant Street into Chinatown. Beautiful sunny day; no agenda; no rush to get back anywhere.

Feeling a bit wicked, I ended up having lunch at 3:30 PM in a little place called Cafe de la Presse (on Grant St. - anyone know it?). Had home-made crab ravioli, a glass of wine, cappucino and creme brulee for dessert. Sign... it was wonderful. View pics here

Thanks again to our guest editor, Mike O'Sullivan

P.S. B2B copywriter Bob Bly is calling Insider Secrets of Profitable E-Newsletters, "The best all-in-one, up-to-date guide I've read on how to write, design and distribute an ezine that, as the subtitle so aptly puts it... gets opened, gets read and gets results."

P.P.S. A few sharp-eyed readers have let me know they noticed I changed the expiration date for the introductory offer from Nov. 30 to Nov. 20. Yes, I did. I decided that deadline was too far away to prompt action.

This is part of my quest to get in touch with my inner salesperson. Bear with me... she's really not so awful. :)

Oh, and the new price for the PDF-only version of Insider Secrets is still very reasonable. Find out more...
