By Debbie Weil

A couple of weeks ago, I asked a handful of A-list bloggers for their top Do or Don't for writing a business blog. I never heard back from Robert Scoble, Microsoft's most famous blogger, aka Scobleizer.

I figured he was too busy to reply to a small fish like WordBiz. Robert just got back to me Friday at the end of the day. Here is his gem of a tip:

Scoble writes: "Our rule here (at Microsoft)? Don't be stupid. :-) I call it be smart. But, it comes down to not pissing off your boss... "

Get the rest of Robert Scoble's tip for corporate blog writers... hot off the press!

Till Midnight Election Day

"Perfect timing. It's just the kind of resource I was looking for."

Don Crowther and I specifically addressed how to handle the issues of editing and approval for a corporate blog.

Yup, the Election Day special has expired. Along with hopes for a new direction in the next four years. What a tense, emotion-filled week. I'm just glad it's over.

You can still order the complete Business Blogging Starter Kit

It's a printed report, audio CD, digital PDF and 30 minutes of phone consulting with yours truly on how or whether to add a blog to your e-marketing mix.

Note: Robert Scoble and the importance of his blog Scobleizer are explained on pages 48 and 50 in the Business Blogging Starter Kit report.

How do I subscribe to debbie's blog?
The first thing you need is an RSS newsreader or news aggregator.

Confused... or wary of RSS? Read this article: What is RSS and why should I care?

Select a newsreader to download & install
Commonly used newsreaders are NewsGator, Feedreader, Pluck and Bloglines.

I recommend you download a free trial of NewsGator. It works seamlessly with Outlook. Or try Bloglines, a Web-based RSS reader that a lot of folks use.

Many newsreaders are free. It doesn't really matter which one you choose. Just pick one to get started. You can always switch to another later.

Other choices for newsreaders
Are you on a Mac or use an email client like Eudora? Follow this link for other suggested newsreaders.

After you've installed a newsreader
Right-click the orange RSS icon to subscribe to my blog. You will be automatically alerted every time I add a new posting or entry.

Er, what is RSS?
RSS is a new way to publish and distribute content on the Web without using email.

That's one of the key benefits of subscribing to blogs or other news feeds via RSS.

Benefits for readers
You don't have to worry about email filters blocking your subscription to a favorite ezine, for example.

You can read blogs you subscribe to at your leisure... and when it's convenient.

Benefits for publishers
You can publish instantly with an RSS feed. RSS lets you sidestep the email delivery problem caused by overflowing inboxes and spam filters.

You no longer have to worry whether your e-newsletter has landed in a subscriber's junk folder.

Why should I subscribe to debbie's blog?
In my blog you'll find many of the links to free resources and downloads that used to appear WordBiz Report.

Think of it as an adjunct to my e-newsletter. More news, more useful nuggets... between regular issues of WBR.
