>> EXPLODE YOUR PROFITS...
Skyrocket your business to new heights!

Let me guess what you're thinking: "Debbie has lost her mind... she's using get rich quick copy in her e-newsletter." Stay with me for a moment...

I recently attended The Big Seminar in San Francisco. It was an eye-opening, mind-altering, three-day immersion in online direct response techniques - that work!

First, I met dozens of incredibly sharp, savvy professionals, many of them veterans of ad agencies and corporate marketing departments.

Your visitors will beg to buy from you

Second, I learned there is a more powerful way to sell online. It leverages the personal, one-to-one nature of the medium, creating a sense of urgency that makes each visitor to your site beg to buy your product or service.

I picked up dozens of specific direct response tips and tactics you can use to improve conversion and increase sales on your site, whether it's a Fortune 1000 company, a non-profit organization or a medium-sized business.

>> PUBLISHER'S NOTE: IF YOU MISSED THE TELECLNIC...

If you can record your voice mail greeting, you can make your Web site and emails talk. Or send an audio postcard like the one I emailed you recently with an invite to a free teleclinic explaining how it works.

This is the coolest, easy-to-use marketing tool I've ever seen. Sound nutty? First, listen to my audio message:

Listen to my audio message
Be sure your PC's speakers are turned on.
Ignore the salesy copy on the AudioGenerator page if it bothers you.

Not to worry if you couldn't dial in to the Sept. 2nd teleclinic explaining how this works and how you can use it on your site. (Apologies to those in Europe and other non-U.S. time zones for whom the hour was impractical.)

If you missed the call, you can dial +1 415-273-6177 to listen to the recording of the teleclinic. It's a bit rough but you'll get the idea.

Then follow the link below to start using Web-based AudioGenerator. The service is $29.95 a month.

Caution: the copy on this site is in-your-face and salesy.

MAKE YOUR WEBSITE TALK

... Early morning teleclinic for European subscribers?

If there's enough interest from European subscribers I will do another teleclinic on AudioGenerator in the early morning. I'll choose a time (9 AM Eastern) that will work for those in Europe as well as anyone in the U.S. who doesn't mind getting up early.

Let me know if you are interested.

Aussie and Kiwi subscribers?

Hey, I haven't forgotten you. Let me know if you're interested and please indicate what time of day works for you. Please remind me what day/date your preferred time translates to in the U.S.

>> RESOURCE: "Sound Advice" When Writing for Audio

Perfect timing! I stumbled across this article by one of my favorite writers, UK-based copywriter Suze St Maur, when I was putting this issue together.

She offers great tips for writing audio scripts. You probably know the obvious one: read it aloud. She offers others:

- write as if you're talking to one person; preferably a friend
- don't clean up the grammar so it's perfect
- be crisp & uncluttered

It's worth reading the whole article and printing it out, particularly if you're going to experiment with AudioGenerator:

Words That Work for Audio: A Little Sound Advice

QUIZ WINNERS

Last issue I posed the question: Who wrote this oft-repeated quotation?

"Je n'ai fait celle-ci plus longue que parce que je n'ai pas eu le
loisir de la faire plus courte."

Often loosely translated as:

"I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead."

The author is Blaise Pascal...

(1623–1662), French scientist & philosopher

That's according to a number of quick-witted WordBiz readers who responded instantly to my challenge.

The gold winners

The following two WordBiz readers were the first to provide attribution using links to authoritative sources.

- Steve Myrick (Blaise Pascal)
- Jill Jensen (Blaise Pascal)

Kudos also for later entries for Pascal:

- Peter Høvring
- B.L. Ochman
- Michael MacKian
- Laurel Lyon

But what about Mark Twain?

Mark Twain (1835 - 1910), American writer

Dan Alsip gets the Mark Twain prize, with no less than three sources:

- Dan Alsip (Mark Twain Mark Twain Mark Twain)

But other readers insist Twain has been misattributed with this quote.

Here's a convincing source from Steve Myrick to back that up.

Hmmm... I give up. I'm willing to lay this one to rest on the assumption that smart thinkers know this to be true:

It's a whole lot harder to write concisely than it is to boil down your message.

Thanks to all who submitted suggestions.
