On being bald, speaking platform skills and video blogging
By Debbie Weil
The topic of this issue came to me in a light-bulb moment.
I figured what the heck.
I've got nearly 18,000 wonderful subscribers. You're one of them and you're probably sitting at your desk right this very moment wondering WHEN the next issue of WordBiz Report is going to pop into your inbox.
Well, here it is!
OK, just kidding. Or... jk, jk, jk as my daughter writes me in her emails.
But the topic of this issue is a bit... odd. If it's even a topic.
Read my blog entry on Using video clips in your blog. It's my riff on how a video featuring the theme music from the 1976 movie Rocky is an incredibly effective marketing tool. And why it's too bad I'm not bald and BIG.
And how terrific the speaking coach I'm working with is. Her name is Clarice Scriber and she's a former corporate speechwriter.
And...
Go to the blog for heaven's sake.

My Bill Gates April Fool's joke
I was feeling kind of frisky on Saturday morning April 1st (April Fool's Day here in the U.S.) so I posted the following entry to my blog:
Bill Gates hires me for CEO blog coaching and to ghostwrite his blog
Then I emailed the link to a bunch of family members and some colleagues. Within minutes I was getting messages back like:
"OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU JUST SCORED THE BIGGEST EXEC CEO WHALE OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!!"
That's a verbatim message (including every exclamation point) from a friend who happens to be a general manager of a Fortune 1000 company. He tends to be enthusiastic about things. But you get the picture. People believed me and within minutes the link was making its way - erroneously - around the blogosphere.
That got me to thinking.
A few days later I posted another entry:
My prediction: 2006 will be the year of questioning credibility of the blogosphere
Follow the link above for my riff on credibility in the blogosphere. How to sniff it out, when to doubt, what it means for business, etc.
Yes, I do offer CEO and senior exec blog coaching

Join me at the ContentBiz Summit in New York, Monday and Tuesday, May 8-9, 2006 ***** 5-star recommendation by Debbie Weil
If you think this conference is just for publishers, think again. No matter what business you're in, you will learn how to get maximum value out of your Web site.
What is online content?
It's blogs, e-newsletters, e-alerts, downloadable white papers, PDF tips sheets, useful articles - and even podcasts - a lot of which you are already producing.
Often, publishers use free content to market paid content. You can do the same thing no matter what kind of widgets you're selling.
Hands-down this is one of my favorite conferences. It's organized by MarketingSherpa and they do a superb job. I missed it last May and am really looking forward to attending this year.
Please join me!
Don't wait if you're interested
ContentBiz Summit always sells out a few weeks before the event. If you want to go, grab your ticket now.
Save $200 if you register before 7 PM Eastern, April 14th. And yes I get a small commission if you register through my links.
Be sure to let me know if you're coming so we can get together.
More advance praise for The Corporate Blogging Book
One piece of the publishing puzzle I've enjoyed has been soliciting advance mini-reviews to print on the book jacket. I ended up with 13 "blurbs" as the publisher calls them. That's too many to fit on the back of the jacket.
So I'm hoping there will be an extra page at the front of the book for "More advance praise."
Here are two of my favorite blurbs that you *will* find on the back jacket, when the book is published on August 3, 2006:
"Rock solid advice and examples for anyone considering business blogging. Weil deftly shows how to avoid the pitfalls of open communications while establishing a real conversation with your customers."
- Chris Anderson, editor-in-chief of Wired magazine and author of The Long Tail
"This compact-yet-comprehensive encyclopedia of corporate blogging lucidly explains why blogging should be part of any customer loyalty strategy. Even better, it helps ensure your blogging efforts will you make youóand your bossólook good."
- Jackie Huba, co-author Creating Customer Evangelists and the blog ìChurch of the Customerî
