CASE STUDY: All Action, No Talk for Intuit's QuickBooks Online blog

Paul Rosenfeld, General Manager of Intuitís QuickBooks Online, had a great idea: why not start a blog to communicate with ñ and learn from - his 35,000 customers?

Paul is an informal kind of guy. He threw the idea out on a sunny Friday in Mountain View, CA while chatting with a few members of his team. When he came in on Monday, lo and behold, one of his staffers had created a QuickBooks Online blog using TypePad.com.

More Action / Less Talk

"Everyone (in big companies) thinks in terms of PowerPoint and big projects and lots of money. Our blog is an example of a lot of action and very little talking," he said in an interview. "Weíre very proud of it. Itís the first blog at Intuit."

(One other exists, for TurboTax, but itís only open to registered users.)

Hereís a look at how Rosenfeld has developed the QuickBooks Online blog with the help of a handful of staffers, what they write about and lessons learned for other corporate managers harboring secret thoughts of blogging...

"7 Ways to Blog Your Brand" with Debbie and personal branding guru William Arruda - Thursday April 21st

Personal Branding guru William Arruda and I are doing a teleseminar on "7 Ways to Blog Your Brand." Arruda, if you're not familiar with him, is a corporate branding consultant who works with executives at IBM, Microsoft, Ogilvy and other companies.

He also runs the online Reach Branding Club, an e-learning site for consultants and entrepreneurs. It looks intriguing. You get a downloadable branding workbook; then access to coaching by email; to teleseminars and other events.

In the April 21st teleseminar we'll cover:

- Do you have something to say?

- Good blogging is good writing; how you can convey your brand

- How & why to combine a blog with your Web site

- How a blog can complement or replace an e-newsletter

- Basics of choosing blogging software & RSS

- Tips to keep your blog going

- How to get your blog noticed and talked about in the blogosphere

More info and register for Blog Branding teleseminar Thursday April 21, 12 Noon Eastern (FRE*E for a limited time)

Be sure to check out the Reach Branding Club. Arruda is offering WordBiz subscribers a $20 per month savings on the monthly membership fee.

Pub Note: download FRE*E podcast interview on RSS

I've done my first podcast interview... with RSS expert Rok Hrastnik in Slovenia. And you can download the MP3 audio file (fre*e).

This was a two-way interview. First I interviewed Rok on the basics of RSS. I asked him to explain to the uninitiated how to hop on to this new communications channel. He had good clear answers.

Then he asked me questions about corporate blogging: whether a company can profit from blogging; the relationship between blogging and branding, blogging and direct marketing... and more.

Rok (I call him Mr. RSS) is the author of a 550-page (very reasonably-priced) downloadable e-book, "Unleash the Marketing and Publishing Power of RSS." (I highly recommend it.)

To download the MP3 podcast interview:

Follow this link to download the podcast interview from debbie's blog or

Get it from Rok's informative RSS blog.

Once downloaded, you can listen to the interview on your computer or transfer the file to your iPod and tune in at your convenience.
