Do tell... How many hours does it take to produce 1 issue of your e-newsletter?

First question: how long does it take to produce one issue of your e-newsletter or ezine - whether you are an independent professional or part of a for-profit or non-profit organization?

I ask because of the topic of next week's teleseminar featuring guest expert Bob Bly. (See box at right.) Bob, an extremely successful B2B copywriter, is genuine and generous with his expertise. No hype. No fluff. I consider him a friend as well as a colleague.

He maintains that it takes him less than two hours per month (hence his 1-Hour Formula) to create and deliver his text-only ezine that generates "hundreds of thousands of dollars worth" (his words) of his copywriting and consulting services, books, tapes, and seminars.

Next Thursday I want to ask Bob if anyone can produce a lead-generating e-newsletter in 1 hour. Or do you have to be a world-class copywriter with dozens of Fortune 1000 clients? With your input I can ask him some tough questions.

Of course, if you participate in next week's audio seminar you can ask him your own question about how to most efficiently produce an ezine or e-newsletter that generates leads and sales. Normally, access to Bob would cost you hundreds of dollars per hour.

Oh, and when you complete the quick survey you're automatically entered into this week's book giveaway (see below).

Thanks to emetrics expert Jim Sterne for 2 more copies of his meaty handbook for marketers: Web Metrics: Proven Methods for Measuring Web Site Success.

Two lucky readers will win a copy of this 430-page guide. It's written for non-techies who need to understand - and justify - all the numbers associated with site analysis. Comprehensive, clear and a great resource.

Understanding Online Conversion

If you missed hearing Jim on our audio seminar last month, you might be interested in the complete PDF transcript and audio CD of this useful event.

Software trainer Richard Kraneis walked us through a Web metrics spreadsheet so clearly that even Excel beginners can understand the magic behind his customizable "model."

Then Jim answered questions like:

- why you have to be patient when making incremental changes to improve your conversion-to-sales rate

- which Web metrics are the most important

- why big companies ask the same questions as small ones when it comes to Web metrics

An article in ClickZ today reminded me why it's so important to think about an e-newsletter as part of a bigger-picture marketing strategy.

It's easy to get sucked into "online is everything" when of course the most potent marketing strategy combines touch points both on and offline. Postcard campaigns, speaking engagements, a business card with a "free offer" on the back, networking at local business events... These apply whether you're a 1-person shop or a member of a large corporation.

A free e-newsletter or ezine is just one way to reach out to your prospects. It can be a lot of work. Have you thought of every possible way to increase your ROI? I'm looking forward to getting specific ideas next week from Bob Bly.

Warm Regards,
