INVITE to Live Workshop

ISSN 1550-1787
A transparent invitation to my Feb. 17 workshop on "How to add a blog to your marketing strategy"

Been thinking a lot this week about transparency... in view of Carly Fiorina's ouster yesterday as CEO of H-P. I've just posted a blog entry you might find interesting: Accessibility and transparency: should Carly have blogged?

If you click through to read it, be sure to leave a comment. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the subject.

H-P is my new client
What the blog post doesn't say... is that H-P is my client. I was invited to make an internal presentation to their corporate communications group... on blogs as a business strategy, both internal and external.

It was a Web/audio event because H-P employees are in so many different locations. We planned it several months in advance. But I made the presentation Tuesday Feb. 8, the day before Carly was fired. Talk about timing...

Why I'm writing today
So, I want to be up front and honest with you. Here's why I'm writing you today...

If you're receiving this special issue of WordBiz Report, it's because you live near (or within striking distance of) Washington DC. I'd love to meet you in person!

And I've got the perfect venue. Next Thursday I'm running a live workshop on Blogging & RSS here in Washington DC.

Seth Godin I'm not
As of today, there are still some empty seats. And I've got space for 20.

Now, I know I'm not Seth Godin. Definitely not as cool. And I don't have a nifty loft office space outside New York City. So I can't offer you a Whiteboard Session. BTW, he's running the next one on Wednesday Feb. 16th. Don't know if there are any spaces left.

What you'll get out of a small group presentation
But with a small group I CAN offer you both a meaty presentation AND time to talk a bit about your specific company or organization and why or why not a blog might make sense for you and/or your clients.

Less expensive too...
And all (as they say) for the low low price of... well, let's just say this is an incredible bargain if you want some consulting from me. I charge more per hour than the total cost of this half-day workshop.

Plus you get nicely-printed versions of both my reports on business blogging: Beginner's Guide to Business Blogging and the ROI of Business Blogging Starter Kit (comes with a CD).

If you subtract out the cost of the two printed reports ($226), the cost of the $249 workshop is $23. Ummm... is there a better deal around??

What you will learn
Here are the kinds of things I'll be covering next Thursday:

  • The what, why and how of blogging & RSS as business tools - and why you can't ignore them

  • 5 ways your company can blog... and 3 reasons NOT to

  • How to get started; choosing software; setting up a test blog with TypePad

  • How blogging is a tool

  • How blogging is a strategy

  • Blogging do's and don'ts: the basics of blogging etiquette

  • What marketing & PR tools a blog can replace

  • What the devil RSS is and how to use it even if you don't start a blog

  • 5 key ingredients of good blog writing

  • Who in your company should (or should not) blog... and why

And as soon as you register, you'll be able to click to a survey form and submit the specific questions you'd like to see addressed.

Why you should spend a morning with me
You will leave with a solid understanding of why and how blogs and RSS are the hot new business tools for smart-thinking companies and entrepreneurs.

You'll understand why Fortune Magazine is calling blogs the #1 Tech Trend for 2005 and why the February issue of Harvard Business Review has pegged blogs as #10 in a list of 20 Breakthrough Ideas for 2005.

And why the Nightly Business Report recently aired a segment on corporate blogging as a new business phenomenon. (Yes, that's me at left in a video clip from the story.)

Of course, you'll also have your printed copies of the two reports on blogging to refer to.

Will you become a blogging evangelist??
It's up to you whether you want to become your company's blogging evangelist after this workshop.

But no matter what you do with the information, you'll understand why blogs are being touted as a powerful and cost-efficient way to communicate with your customers, establish your company as a thought leader and attract media attention.

You'll know how to use a blog to start a conversation with your customers. And how to jump ahead of your competitors with a blog!

Who Should Attend
No prior knowledge of blogs or RSS is required. But some familiarity won't hurt. I'll adjust the level of the presentation depending on who registers.

This session is specifically designed for both corporate and entrepreneurial executives, as well as marketing, communications and PR managers. For profit... or non-profit.

About the location at The Tower Club
It's not a loft... but the classy Tower Club is on the 17th floor of one of the tallest buildings in Tysons Corner (a business and commercial area just outside Washington DC.) Easy parking and fantastic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains on a clear day.

We'll send clear directions for how to get to The Tower Club after you register.
