Two-hour Re-Write Gets WordBiz #1 and #2 Rankings in Google Search Results

From March 13, 2002 edition of WordBiz
Report.
I was so jazzed up after attending Search
Engine Strategies 2002 in Boston that I sat down and spent several hours
re-writing visible copy on the WordBiz home page to incorporate keyword phrases.
Caveat: I did not do a thorough job of researching keywords. Took a stab at
it by reviewing search results on Google when I entered phrases like "online
copywriting," "email marketing," "e-newsletter resources,"
"Web site content," etc.
Wrote
a unique title for top pages
I also wrote unique titles for most of the top pages on my site. As an example,
my home page was formerly titled "WordBiz.com, Inc. Turn clicks into customers."
Not a search engine-friendly title.
One-stop resource for killer online copywriting...
I changed it to: "WordBiz: one-stop resource for killer online copywriting,
e-newsletters, B2B permission email marketing." My objective for the home
page is to increase the number of sign ups for WordBiz Report.
#1
in Google for "online copywriting tips"
To my amazement, one week later WordBiz is now #1 in Google results for "online
copywriting tips" and #2 for "online copywriting." No numbers
yet on whether the conversion rate for new sign ups from the home page has improved.
Note: this ranking may change. Google's search results are based on an algorithm
of keyword phrases, meta tag coding and link popularity (links to your site
from other Web sites) that I do not pretend to understand completely.
